Fresh Local Fraser Coast Mullet

Our Fresh Sea Mullet Fillets are netted locally around Rainbow Beach and Fraser Island by commercial fishermen in our extended team. The catch goes straight from their nets, onto ice, and is generally delivered or collected same-day to our team for same-day filleting.

Filleted & Cryovaced Same-Day

Once it arrives, our team fillets the mullet on-site and immediately Cryovac seals it - all on the same day it's caught. There is no unnecessary processing, storage or freezing in between. Basically, it goes from the net to ice, to our filleting bench, to the Cryovac machine.

It doesn't get much fresher than that!

Big Fish, Big Fillets

Sea Mullet are a good-sized fish, giving you substantially larger fillets than smaller Ficker and Poddy Mullet, which are better used whole or halved. These bigger, tougher fillets are perfect especially if you're targeting big reef fish offshore, particularly Reds.

A Bait That Stays on the Hook

Mullet has firm, tough flesh that holds together well on the hook. That makes it particularly useful when smaller picker fish are around and chewing through softer baits like pillies before the bigger fish get a chance.

From the Estuary to Offshore

Fresh Mullet Fillets are incredibly versatile. Cut them into small strips or slices for Bream, Jacks, Grunter and Flathead in the local estuaries, use larger strips on ganged hooks for Tailor and Mackerel off the beach, or fish whole fillets offshore when you're chasing bigger reef species.

Fresh Enough to Eat, Well Almost :)

This is obviously bait, so we are not going to tell anyone to eat it, but it's genuinely up there with fresh local seafood quality. You couldn't get it fresher if you caught and filleted the fish yourself.

Available Sizes

Available in 2-pack fillets, 1kg packs and 10kg bulk blocks. The 10kg blocks are ideal for serious anglers, offshore trips, fishing groups and anyone who needs a serious supply of bait.

Fishing with Sea Mullet Fillets (Fresh)

Drew's Recommendations

Fresh Mullet Fillets are one of my go-to baits, especially for Tailor and when smaller picker fish are around. These smaller fish will often demolish pillies and softer baits before the bigger fish hanging around get a chance to eat them, so Mullet's tough skin and firm flesh ensures it stays on the hook better and longer.

The Rainbow/Fraser region Mullet run generally starts building around April, with May and June often seeing good numbers of fish moving along the coast. It's a great time to fish Mullet because plenty of predatory species are following them and feeding on them.

Cut the fillets into thin strips on smaller hooks for our local Bream/Tarwhine/Dart populations and larger strips and hooks for Jacks, Grunter, Fingermark and Cod which hang out in the rivers and estuaries around the Fraser Coast. Use whole fillets when targeting bigger offshore species like Reds which love a big bait. Mullet fillets are also great on ganged hooks for Tailor along the beach, whilst definitely presenting a good chance at picking up the Mackerel and Longtail Tuna that hang around the surf too.
